How to play Block Fit
Block Fit is played on a board of 9 by 9 squares, split into nine 3x3 boxes. Under the board sits a tray with three pieces: lines, squares, corners and L, T, S and Z shapes from one to nine blocks. Place every piece somewhere on the board. When all three are used, a new set of three arrives.
Whenever a row, a column or one of the 3x3 boxes is completely filled, it clears and those squares become free again. One piece can complete several of them at once, and they all clear together. Pieces cannot be rotated, so plan where each shape will go. The game ends when none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere on the board. The final board stays on screen for a moment with those pieces marked "No room", so you can see what blocked you.
Scoring and combos
- Placing a piece scores one point per block.
- Clearing scores 18 points for one row, column or box, 54 for two at once, 108 for three and more for bigger clears, so clearing several units together is worth much more than clearing them one by one.
- Combos multiply the clear points. Clear on two placements in a row and the second clear counts double; a third in a row counts triple, and so on. A placement that clears nothing resets the combo.
Stars depend on your final score: one star from 150 points, two from 600 and three from 1,500. Your best score is saved in this browser.
Tips and strategy
- Keep space for the big pieces. The 3x3 square and the five-block lines need a lot of room. Leave at least one open 3x3 area for as long as you can.
- Build towards boxes as well as lines. A 3x3 box often clears sooner than a full row, and a piece that finishes a box and a row at once scores a multi-clear.
- Avoid single holes. A lone empty square surrounded by blocks can only be filled by the single block piece. Fill edges and corners neatly instead.
- Look at all three pieces first. Place the awkward piece while there is still room for it, and keep the small ones for tight spots.
- Keep a combo going. If a clear is ready, take it before placing a piece elsewhere: back-to-back clears multiply your points.
Daily board and friend challenges
Pick Daily to play the same sequence of pieces as everyone else today. Finishing it grows your daily streak. In free play every game deals a new sequence. After a game, Challenge a friend copies a link that deals your friend exactly the same pieces in the same order, with your score to beat, so the only difference is where you put them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate the pieces?
No. Each piece is placed the way it is shown in the tray. That is what makes planning ahead important: keep room for the shapes that are hard to fit.
What clears in Block Fit?
Any full row, any full column and any full 3x3 box. If one placement completes several of them, they all clear at the same time and you score a multi-clear.
When does the game end?
When none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere on the board. The final board stays visible with the pieces that had no room marked, then your score appears.
How do I place a piece on a phone?
Drag it from the tray; the piece floats above your finger and the board shows where it will land. You can also tap a piece and then tap the square where its top-left corner should go.
Is the daily board the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone gets the same pieces in the same order on the same date, so you can compare scores with friends. Free play deals a new sequence every game.
