How to play Hidden Objects

Each round shows a room drawn in vector graphics: a living room, kitchen, study, bedroom, workshop or attic. Somewhere in the clutter are 8 to 12 small items, and their names appear in a word list beside the picture. Tap or click an item when you spot it and its name is ticked off the list. Find them all before the timer ends to win the level.

The room is generated from a seed, so every run can look different, yet the same seed always produces the same room. There are no photos, only shapes, which keeps the game light and quick to load.

Levels and difficulty

There are 30 levels. Level 1 asks for 8 items, uses big objects, adds very little clutter and gives you about 160 seconds. By the top levels you hunt for up to 12 smaller, better camouflaged items among much more clutter, with about 120 seconds on the clock. Use the Previous and Next level buttons to jump around. Your chosen level is remembered on this device, and winning a level in free play moves you up to the next one automatically.

The things you search for include a key, mug, ring, glasses, scissors, feather, star, fish, leaf, button, candle, umbrella, bottle, spoon and more.

Scoring and stars

Every item is worth 100 points. You also earn a time bonus of up to 50 points per item, scaled by how much time is left when you find it. Hints cost 40 points each and every wrong tap costs 10.

  • 1 star: find every item before time runs out.
  • 2 stars: also use at most 1 hint, make at most 8 wrong taps and finish with at least 25 percent of the time left.
  • 3 stars: use no hints, make at most 3 wrong taps and finish with at least 40 percent of the time left.

Playing without hints earns the no hints achievement, and a run with no wrong taps earns the perfect achievement.

Controls and hints

  • Touch and mouse: tap or click directly on an item.
  • Keyboard: arrow keys move a crosshair around the picture, and Enter or Space taps at its position.
  • P pauses, R restarts, and a button toggles sound.

You get 3 hints per run, with a short cooldown between them. A hint highlights a circle that contains one of the missing items. The circle is larger than the item itself, so you still have to do some searching.

Daily challenge and friend challenges

Free play uses a random seed at the level you choose. The daily challenge uses today's seed at a fixed medium level (level 15), the same room for everyone, and playing it each day builds a streak. After a run you can copy a friend-challenge link, which replays the same seed at level 15 so you can compare scores on identical rooms.

Tips for finding more

  1. Read the whole word list first, then pick the items with the most distinctive shapes.
  2. Scan the room in a steady pattern, such as left to right in bands, rather than jumping around.
  3. Look at edges and overlaps. Small items often sit half behind furniture or blend into similar colours.
  4. Do not spam taps. Each wrong tap costs points and can drop you a star.
  5. Save hints for the last one or two items, when the room is most familiar and the remaining search is hardest.
