How to play Odd One Out
Odd One Out shows you a grid of shapes. Every shape is the same except one, and your job is to find it and tap it. You start with a tiny 2 by 2 grid where the difference is easy to see. Each correct answer instantly gives you a new round, and the grids slowly grow up to 7 by 7 while the difference shrinks. You have 60 seconds in total, so speed and care both matter. This is a game for fun and focus, not a medical or vision test.
What can be different
The odd shape changes in exactly one way. It might be a slightly lighter or darker shade, a nearby hue, a smaller size, a small tilt, rounder corners, or a thicker ring. The kind of difference changes from round to round, so you cannot rely on one trick. Early rounds use big differences. Later rounds keep shrinking the gap, but never below a level that is still visible on a normal screen.
Scoring, time and stars
- Your score is the number of rounds you solve in 60 seconds.
- A wrong pick costs 3 seconds and resets your streak.
- Every 5 correct answers in a row adds 2 bonus seconds to the clock.
- You earn 1, 2 or 3 stars for 8, 15 or 22 rounds.
- Solve 10 or more rounds without a single mistake to earn the perfect flag.
Controls
On a phone or tablet, tap the shape you think is different. With a mouse, click it. With a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move between cells, then press Enter or Space to choose. Each cell is announced as a row and column, so screen reader users can play too. Press P to pause and R to restart. The game also pauses automatically if you switch tabs.
Daily challenge, streaks and friends
Daily challenge mode gives everyone the same shapes today, so your result is directly comparable with friends. Finish it to grow your daily streak. Free play uses a fresh random seed every time. After a run you can copy a challenge link: anyone who opens it plays the exact same rounds and sees your score to beat.
Tips for a higher score
- Do not stare at one shape. Let your eyes relax and scan the whole grid at once.
- When the differences get tiny, look for the shape that feels out of rhythm, not the one that is obviously wrong.
- Do not guess wildly. A miss costs 3 seconds, which is often more than a calm second look.
- Build streaks. Five in a row buys back time and keeps you moving.
- Turn your screen brightness up and avoid glare for the cleanest view.
